Month of Gifts

December is the month of gifts around here. First we start with St. Nicholas Day. The tradition is all the gifts must come from a drug store and include scratcher lottery tickets. We didn't do very well this year... maybe next year we'll hit it big.
We started our "Seven Days of Solstice" on the 15th. This is a holiday Jon and I created before the kids were born. We decided since we were very Agnostic that a Solstice celebration made the most sense to us. We liked the idea of spreading it out over days and decided to do an entire week of gift giving with the big gift coming on the 21st. We even have a song we made up to celebrate the day... in the tune of a polka, "Happy, happy, happy, happy Solstice- A very happy solstice to you- It's the shortest day of the year- but they're all getting longer from here...... so Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Solstice"- (repeat and make up your own lyrics until your bored with it).
Of course we also celebrate Hanukah and light Menorah candles as well as Christmas (opening grand parent's presents and then going out for Chinese food). We try to celebrate as much as we can in December and we're open to suggestions...
So Happy Hanukah, Kwanza, Happy St. Nicholas Day and Solstice and Merry Christmas.
