So what has Mama been up to lately? Well here's some photos. I FINALLY took the leap and bought a new sewing machine, after talking about it for the last four years or so. So far I love it! It's so quiet for one thing, I can actually sew when Margo is napping. I bought a Sears Kenmore on sale, a computerized machine. It's pretty cool how it always stops with the needle up, the bobbin loading was tons easier than my old machine. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I'm planning on taking a class this Summer and getting to know it better. This is what I've done with it so far though:
I made two one piece reversible sundresses for Margo. I need to put in some snaps still and sew up the matching bloomers. The pattern is very cool, from Sewbaby: http://www.sewbaby.com/big/patterns10_/sb-10.html
I bought a pattern for some simple reversible pants and also a Hawaiian shirt type pattern for Sollie. He wants a retro rocket kid shirt like Margo's sundress. Well he actually wants a sundress but I'll talk about that later. I also have a pattern for a Renaissance type dress for Margo to wear to the Moscow Ren Fair, which I need to get going on this weekend.
I finished a simple, one piece knit sweater for Margo. It's all done in knit stich, all one piece, folded in half and then the sides are seemed up. I found it online free: http://www.fabulousyarn.com/PATTERNS/onebuttoncardigan.htm
It knitted up very quickly, I think I'll make her another...
Although I've promised Solomon that the next thing I knit will be for him!
Also, you can see Margo showing off her knit soaker in one of the pictures. That was fairly easy, although I still don't know if I'm doing the short rows correctly. That pattern I bought online from Little Turtle Knits: http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pages/diaperingpatterns.php
The next one I'm going to try is the picky pants pattern.
Solomon and I went and saw Dan Zanes on Saturday and had a great time. He picked out a t-shirt at the concert, there was a choice of black and white or pink and predictably he picked the pink. But then he didn't want to wear it the next day, he wanted to wear it under something else and was acting strange about it. After questioning him he confessed that he had been teased about liking pink. So now he wants to wear pink to bed or under other clothes like it's some dirty secret! Oh, I'm just so sad that his sweet little innocence has been crushed. Jon told me to get him a pink t-shirt and he would start wearing pink to help Sollie feel better about his love of pink! How sweet is that? Any way, Margo is all done with me typing and it's hard to type with her on my lap, so I'm outta here.
