Tie-Dying Tips

We tried our hand at tie-dying yesterday. I bought a kit from Dharma Trading Co.

The kit didn't come with great instructions but I found a good site that helped out: Paula Birch
Of course I made some mistakes: so here's a list of what I would do differently next time:

1. Buy some thickener- the kit didn't come with it but I think it would help keep color from getting all over the place, especially since kids are doing the squirting.

2. Put shirts on some kind of screen or baking cooling rack, so that clothes aren't sitting in a puddle of dye (although thickener might help with this as well).

3. When doing a roll, which makes stripes, you might want to re-roll the other way and apply dye because I got a lot of white on the inside.

Everything else worked really well. The kids had a great time and they are proudly wearing their creations today.
