Solomon recently went to a party at a friend's house. This friend is going to full-day kindergarten and having a good time. So of course the next day Solomon wanted to go to what he called "playschool" too. Sadly though, what he's is too young to realize is that it's far from playschool. They do get three recesses in their 6 1/2 hour day but there is zero time set aside for free/creative/fantasy play.
As I observe Solomon and Margo spending the day playing together, I hope that Solomon will realize that I have given him a gift this year. They both amaze me with their ability to come up with a story line and get engaged in their characters for such long periods of time before there's a conflict and much of the time they are figuring out how to resolve the conflict by compromising all on their own.
They also seem so close and bonded to each other. They really enjoy each other's company.
I asked Solomon today if he wanted to start keeping a "story journal". This is an idea from Vivian Gussin Paley about writing down some of the creative play stories and having them acted out later on. Since they love putting on "plays" so much this seems like a natural.
Today they were playing "kitty fairies" and dressing up in hats and wings. I got some cute pictures.
I finished making a "soaker sack" for the new baby with some yarn that I dyed with kool-aid. I found a free pattern on-line. "Sheepy Sack" I'm very happy with how the yarn turned out. I used Orange, Cherry, and Berry Blue. Three canning jars in a canner full of simmering water. I just dipped the skein in the jars as best I could and then had to reposition to get the white parts that were sticking out.
I had enough yarn left over from the sack to make a matching hat.
I have one more white skein left and I'm trying to think of some good kool-aid color combinations for this one.
