We had a really nice for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately it started early for me. I had a coughing fit at 5 am, so I decided to get some dough rising for cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon rolls for Thanksgiving breakfast seem to be a family tradition now. I tried to go back to sleep, only to have Margo wake-up. She had kicked her covers off and her poor little bottom half was like ice. The child has terrible circulation for a three year old. I think I dozed off a little only to wake up to her little face next to mine and her little voice saying, "mama, it's morning, get up!".
So we got up and finished off the rolls.
After breakfast I made cranberry sauce and got some stuffing going in the slow-cooker. Relaxed and knitted for a bit while the kids played and then made soup and yorkshire pudding (which is basically pop-overs). We had our first course around 2- sweet potato & leek bisque, yorkshire pudding and salad. Then Jon and Chris took over and made walnut loaf and mashed potatoes. I made the gravy. Then we had our second course: walnut loaf, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce.
Margo and I made some fudge and then we all watched a movie before our third course: dessert! Grandma T made wanut molasses pie and carrot pie. Both were very good. My fudge didn't set-up.... again! I even made the stupid easy kind this time, instead of doing it all by scratch. I seem to be fudge jinxed. Oh well, still taste good even if you have to eat it with a spoon.
All in all, it was a very nice, relaxing day. Even though there was a lot of cooking going on.
Yesterday we all hung out and played lots of board games, I did some more knitting. Jon and I went to see a movie and then we all went out to eat together. I had no idea Solomon could be made so happy with some bland Mexican food coverd in melted cheese.
Last night I was up at 2 with another stupid coughing fit. Tried to go back to sleep around 4, didn't work. I finally went back to sleep for a little while but I feel horrible and I'm going to try and sleep some more. Jon took his mom and the kids up to Seattle. We have tickets for Solomon to see "The Wizard of Oz". He said he wanted me to take him, so he was a little disappointed. I feel bad for missing the time together but the house is awfully nice, quiet and empty....
The first day of Solstice is rapidly approaching... we celebrate the week leading up to it, so it starts December 15th. That means seven presents for the kids. Granted they start off small... but I still don't have any great ideas. Well, I actually have some good ideas for Margo but I'm coming up short for Sollie. Trying to get him some useful toys and things- not just more junk. The kids have so much already. Many puzzles, board games, toys... Hmmmmm......
I suppose I'll come up with something.
