What we've been up to...

It's been a busy couple of weeks with lots fo things to celebrate.

First we took part in Diwali with Jon's co-worker's family. Her mother led a little cooking class for me and the kids and then we got to eat what we had made.... yum.

Next we celebrated Halloween. I got Margo's costume done just in time. It was kind of funny how every one wanted her to be "Tinkerbell" or some other brand name fairy. She couldn't just be a fairy! I was a little proud that both my children had chosen non-branded Halloween costumes. Solomon picked a friendly ghost from a sweet, old children's book we have called, "Georgie".

Then we had sugar skulls to decorate for the Day of Dead. The kids really got into decorating their skulls. They each made one for great grandma Vivian and one for our cat Ishmael.
After decorating skulls we put on our rain gear and walked over to 6th ave. to see the Day of the Dead Procession. Solomon wants to get in on a workshop next year and make some papermache figures.

Both kids got way too much candy. Fortunatley neither of them are eating themselves silly. They are doing a nice job of moderating themselves. Well, Margo is mostly a hoarder, so she isn't really eating any!

On a homeschool group I'm a part of someone shared some great ideas of what to do with all the candy. Solomon loved the ideas- Margo not so much (because she wants to hoard hers...).

Solomon and I picked out his candy bars and put them in several ziplock bags and put them in the freezer for camping and movies.

Then we went through the rest and picked out good decorations for gingerbread houses. Since Solomon loves making gingerbread men and houses he was very excited about this idea.
Now he has hardly any left!

We also picked out some non-peanut candy bars and we are going to chop them up and put them in cupcakes later. (So Jon can eat some too).

Candy problem solved and I didn't have to be mean and throw it away!
