May Day Fun

I helped the kids make a may day basket to hang on our neighbor's doorknob.
We made a simple cone-shaped construction paper basket and the kids filled it with some flowers from our yard. Then they took it next door, hung it on the doorknob, knocked on the door and ran back to our house.
It was pretty cute.

Here's some info from Wiki: "May Day was also celebrated by some early European settlers of the American continent. In some parts of the United States, May Baskets are made. These baskets are small and usually filled with flowers or treats and left at someone's doorstep. When you ring the bell, you are supposed to run away. The person receiving the basket would try to catch the person running away. If they caught the person, a kiss was to be exchanged."

I didn't realize that if caught they get a kiss, that's even cuter. It was too funny watching Margo run back to the house (she doesn't run very fast). I think we've started a new tradition for our family, or brought back an old one...

Hopefully my neighbor figured out what the basket was for.

We're heading out to Moscow (Idaho!) to visit family and go to the Renaissance Fair. I'm always excited to look at the booths, everything has to be hand-made.
