Homeschool... oh (silence).

It's funny to me what a negative reaction I'm getting from people. Of course socialization is always brought up. O.kay let's see, Solomon has had three years of preschool and it's not like he's going to be socially isolated living in the middle of Tacoma.
I also like the response I read on the plane coming back from London. There as an article about the increase of homeschooling in the UK, specifically non-religious homeschooling. One parent said she always responds to the socialization issue by saying the socialization they get in school is not the kind of socialization she wants for her child. Apparently UK school's have a big bully problem.
People aren't very happy about the fact that we won't be sitting down and doing phonics or writing exercises or math with him either. I love this notion that you have to start early or some window of opportunity is going to close and they won't be able to learn it; or that I'm going to deprive him . To those people, I say RELAX, there's plenty of time, the kid is only five! If he shows a great interest in these things we will follow his lead. We will continue to read to him several time a day, just like we always have. It's going to be o.kay.
